Inflammation can show up in the scalp.
...and the question women usually ask me is this:
“What should I start doing right now?”
The first thing I recommend is to take action early.
If you’re noticing thinning hair, increased scalp visibility, dryness, itching, or irritation, don’t wait until the problem gets worse.
One of the first steps I recommend is making an appointment with both a trichologist and a dermatologist.

A trichologist studies the hair and scalp and often looks at the issue from a more holistic perspective.
They can evaluate what’s happening internally and may recommend blood work to see where your body may be lacking nutrients.

A dermatologist focuses more on the medical side of the scalp and may provide topical prescription treatments or medications if needed.
When you use both together, you’re addressing the issue from two different angles — one working on the root cause and the other helping manage the condition at the scalp.
Another step I usually recommend is supporting the body internally.
This may include adding omega-3 fatty acids to help fight inflammation and beginning to pay closer attention to your diet.
And this is something I say to my clients often:
Your hair routine starts in the kitchen.
If you’re eating out frequently and consuming a lot of processed foods, it can increase inflammation in the body.
Cooking more meals at home and focusing on whole foods can make a real difference.
Lean meats, eggs, nuts, vegetables, fruits, and other whole foods help support the body and provide nutrients that the hair follicles rely on.
Healthy hair doesn’t only come from the products we use.
It also comes from the habits we practice every day.
Hair health doesn’t only come from what we put on the hair.
The foundation of healthy hair really begins with what we put in our bodies.
What we apply to the hair helps maintain the strands that are already growing, but the quality of the hair itself often starts internally.
And many times, the hair is the first place the body shows us that something needs attention.
